Many scientists and governments have faith that they will make contact with other intelligent beings somewhere in the universe, and consequently they devote much time, energy, and resources to this endeavor. If it could be shown that there are no other intelligent life forms, resources could be re-directed to more important projects, such as those that care for the life forms we know to exist, our fellow human beings.
For this to happen, the scientific community would have to believe in the existence of God, his creation of all life, understand his plan for mankind, and have faith in the living word of God.This is impossible to understand without fear, respect, and a desire to learn and serve God through the direction of His spirit. This is the foundation of correct understanding:
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding (Pro. 9:10, New King James Version used throughout unless otherwise stated).
By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible (Heb. 11:3).
Some scientists who honestly examine the intricate and interdependent systems that comprise our planetand the universe at large, have a hard time concluding that it came into existence without intelligent planning and design. That does not mean that these specialists are going to make their opinions a matter of public record as it could have a negative impact on their standing within the scientific community.
…because what may be known of God is evident among them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and divine nature, so that they are without excuse… (Rom. 1:19-20).
As the only true God states He created the vast universe and oversees all of its functions (Job 38, 39), we should be able to rely on His word for the correct answer regarding whether or not there are other intelligent life forms somewhere in His creation.
In Genesis 2:18, we are told that the first being created in the family of man was alone,
And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone,” (Gen. 2:18).
If there were aliens on other planets, this statement would not have been made, and there would not have been any need to create another being for the purpose of companionship.
I will make him a helper comparable to him (Gen. 2:18).
In Deuteronomy 4:32, we are told that we can go back in time as far as we want and find there is nothing greater in the physical realm than God’s creative act involving mankind and His interaction with them,
For ask now concerning the days that are past, which were before you, since the day that God created man on the earth, and ask from one end of heaven to the other, whether any great thing like this has happened, or anything like it has been heard (De. 4:32).
It would be fair to say that the creation of intelligent life forms on other planets should be included in this statement, but it is not.
In Deuteronomy 32:7-10, we see that God’s people on this earth are the focus of His attention. There is no other part of creation that has greater purpose or meaning,
Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations. Ask your father, and he will show you; your elders, and they will tell you: when the Most High divided their inheritance to the nations, when He separated the sons of man, He set the boundaries of the peoples according to the number of the angels of God. For the Lord’s (i.e. Christ’s) portion is his people; Jacob is the place of his inheritance. He found him in a desert land and in the wasteland, a howling wilderness; he encircled him, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye (De. 32:7-10; cf. LXX, DSS).
God created mankind for His glory (i.e. to complete His amazing plan of salvation) and therefore anything else in the physical universe is of little consequence by comparison.
Everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him (Isa. 43:7).
Know that the Lord, He is God; it is He who has made us, and His we are; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture (Ps.100:3).
In fact, the entire creation eagerly awaits the completion of the plan of God because the physical universe is in a state of decay and serves no greater purpose than to sustain human life in order to deal with the problem of sin (1Jn. 3:4; Rom. 6:23; Heb. 9:22). When sin is dealt with once and for all, there will be a new heaven and new earth (Isa. 65:17; 2Pe. 3:10).
For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of decay into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs until now (Rom. 8:19-22).
In the minds of many people it is hoped and assumed that aliens from a distant planet will be higher life forms willing to share with us their superior technology that will provide mankind with the answers to our global problems. Their assistance would become our “means of escape” or “salvation” from the consequences of mankind’s choices; namely greed and lawlessness which continue to bring this planet nearer to destruction each day.
As the entire universe and everything in it is in a constant state of decay, and God does not intend that it continue any longer than it needs to, it is illogical that a loving God would create other intelligent life forms on distant planets. They would serve no purpose as mankind needs to face the consequences of their own decisions and learn from them.
Instead, once men have learned higher truths from God, not from other “intelligent life forms”, and have learned to love and live according to His ways, He will resurrect mankind to a position of responsibility once the new heavens and new earth have been made (Isa. 66:22).
For He has not put the world to come, of which we speak, in subjection to angels. But one testified in a certain place (i.e. David; parenthesis added), saying: What is man that You are mindful of him, or the son of man that You take care of him? You made him for a little while lower than the angels; You crowned him with glory and honor, and set him over the works of Your hands. You have put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not see all things put under him (Heb. 2:5-8).
So although this has not been fulfilled yet, we see that this is the intended purpose for the creation of mankind. Again, this will not happen until sin is dealt with and mankind is restored in his relationship with the one true God.
The Bible shows there are intelligent life forms in God’s creation, but they cannot be detected by scientific instruments because they are not composed of materials that can be recognized by any manmade equipment. In fact, one of these intelligent life forms is very pleased to see mankind looking into outer space for answers to the questions of “Why are we here?” or “Are we alone in the universe?” This being does not want mankind to realize there is no one else out there because then mankind would have to face up to the fact that we are completely unique, and if we are unique then it begs other important questions such as, “Why is there only one planet in the entire universe that supports life? How did it come into existence? Why are we on it? What greater purpose does it serve?”
Jesus Christ said that he saw this being fall from His Father’s realm,
And he (Christ) said to them (his disciples), “I saw Satan fall like lightening from heaven (Lk. 10:18; parenthesis added).
Christ also said that this being has the ability to rule and influence the affairs of mankind, but as a result of Christ’s work this being will soon be removed.
Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out (Jn. 12:31).
In the meantime, this invisible “alien” is able to influence and deceive mankind.
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places (Eph. 6:12).
So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him (Rev. 12:9).
Indeed, the Bible reveals there are other intelligent life forms but they are not physical and therefore cannot be detected. However, their influence can be detected by the conduct of those who are influenced by them.
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are sexual immorality, uncleanness, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God (Gal. 5:19-21).
In summary, focusing on the possibility of intelligent beings in outer space is not just a waste of valuable resources, it is also a serious distraction from the reality of why mankind is unique and the purpose for which we were created on this planet. Not only does this planet look like a jewel from space, it is the only jewel of its kind in the universe. There is no other planet involved in working out God’s plan of salvation and restoration. This plan is necessary due to the rebellion of those spirit beings who decided to live contrary to the law and commandments of the one true God.
the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil (1Jn. 3:8, NASB).
